A.C. Entertainment Technologies Ltd’s Rigging division has delivered a new flexible, portable Out Board motor control solution to the NEC Group in Birmingham, UK, which will be utilised primarily throughout the International Conference Centre Birmingham – one of the busiest conference facilities in the country, hosting numerous high profile international events.
The NEC Birmingham encompasses 19 halls of premium conference and exhibition space along with the LG Arena venue.
The sale involves eight flight cased Out Board DV8 8-channel direct motor controllers and three RC16 remote control handsets with 50m extensions, which are cased up as three 16-way racks and two 8-way single racks – all in Five Star Cases’ Industrial grade rack sleeves. It was co-ordinated between the NEC’s Resource Manager for Rigging, Rob O’Donnell, and A.C. Rigging’s Matt Millward in the Leeds office.
This latest investment is part of an ongoing upgrade to all the Rigging department’s existing stock, which includes moving to a more flexible control solution.
Also supplied as part of the package were ten portable 3-phase 63A rubber enclosure electrical distribution units to be used in conjunction with the controllers.
With over 130 Columbus McKinnon 1T entertainment Lodestar hoists – for which AC-ET is also an official distributor – at their disposal for facilitating clients’ needs, the NEC’s constantly busy Rigging department wanted a new straightforward, user-friendly motor control solution that could be moved between halls and venues, also including the ICC and NIA venues in central Birmingham.
Rob has been an AC-ET client for the past year and comments, “It’s great to be able to deal with a single, highly knowledgeable one-source supplier who speaks the same language and can supply all our rigging needs.” He adds, “AC-ET has a wealth of experience and understanding of our requirements, and has met them all to the full.”
The reason he specified the Out Board controllers, apart from the simplicity of use was the reliability and durability of the product. Also the link feature was a key point for Rob. “You can link the controllers together if you wish, push the green button, and all motors will move together.” During peak times, the NEC Rigging department is in operation 24/7, so they needed a quality engineered brand that is built to withstand what is essentially a touring schedule and environment.
With the diversity of events and exhibitions staged at the NEC, the requirements will vary from rigging and lifting a simple truss or scenic element on one or two motors, to whole exhibition stands, to complex systems with multiple points and hoists needing control.
Rob concludes, “As well as meeting all our requirements, AC-ET is also extremely competitively priced, and I look forward to doing more business with them in the future.”
