A.C. Entertainment Technologies (AC-ET) Ltd’s Audio division has supplied a Shure ULX wireless microphone system to the busy multi-purpose Princes Hall Theatre venue in Aldershot, Hampshire, UK.
Princes Hall’s Technical Manager, Kevin Andrew, sought a new Channel 38 compliant wireless mic solution for the busy receiving house, and chose a Shure ULX system from AC-ET after comparing three leading brands.
The A.C. Audio division provides a high level of specialist service for a wide range of premium brands. They have spent considerable time and energy on raising awareness of the forthcoming ‘digital switchover’, for which Shure’s ULX product has proved to be a popular choice with customers preparing for the switchover.
The 600 capacity (seated format) Princes Hall is active for most days of the year, hosting approximately 50 professional shows and at least 40 performances of their sold-out annual pantomime, as well as numerous local community shows, dance and drama productions for schools and am-dram organisations – so it’s truly ‘multi-purpose’ in every sense.
They wanted to upgrade their existing microphone system and in the process ensure that the new one would future proof them against the upcoming ‘digital switchover’. Being a Council run venue, they were required to get three comparative quotes and so researched extensively as to what was available.
AC-ET had supplied some equipment to Princes Hall in the past when an automated winch bar system was installed, but Kevin also knew the company from when he previously worked with various rental companies. He was well aware of AC-ET’s range of products and their reputation for authoritative, quick and efficient service.
He contacted Peter Butler from the A.C. Audio division, who was “Extremely helpful and knowledgeable.” Peter’s quote won the selection process for several reasons. “We wanted a good, high quality, flexible and robustly built system that would cover all our bases and last a long time.” explains Kevin.
The Shure ULX Standard UHF wireless (ULX-S) system is designed to deliver great performance for all professional sound applications.
Apart from the actual specification of the equipment, the Princes Hall technical team had seen many incoming touring productions using their own Shure microphone packages, and the brand was also highly recommended by their regular pantomime production sound engineer.
The purchase from AC-ET consisted of 13 Shure ULX1 bodypack transmitters and 13 Shure diversity ULXP4 receivers, plus sixteen Shure cardiod condenser lapel mics, a set of headset mic capsules and eight Shure UR2 SM58 hand-held transmitter mics including the classic SM58 capsule. All equipment was supplied complete with distribution amps, antennas and cables.
“AC-ET turned it around very quickly and efficiently.” comments Kevin, and the new Shure system means they can offer a dynamic and wide mix of kit with plenty of options to all their productions. It has been flightcased for efficient usage and storage.
At Princes Hall, Kevin and his crew are delighted with the Shure ULX system, which has been in constant use almost every day since it was delivered. It has appeared on a number of dance shows and the “Britain Does Variety” tour among others. This year’s upcoming pantomime “Aladdin” will be its biggest test to date.
