Called the “Bird’s Nest” because of its unique architecture, Beijing’s 2008 main stadium played host to a multimedia show called the “Attraction” in September/October 2013.
The story centers around the protagonist and the love of his life. The devil falls in love with the woman, and to steal her from the protagonist, he tempts the main character to throw glances at other women. The protagonist resists, and the devil, in rage, wipes all color from the world. The protagonist, in a final move of defiance, opens his own chest to release the color he carries within himself to return color to the world. With this simple act, the devil is defeated.
The production played off of the disparity between the colorful love between the protagonist and his girlfriend, and the dark colorless world in which the devil lives. Because color plays such a pivotal role in the plot line, the ability to add or remove it was necessary. The entire backdrop of the stage was created with LED scenery panels, allowing scenery to be changed in a matter of seconds.
In addition to the LED effects, the production utilized smoke and haze machines, fountains, and theatrical illumination to engross viewers in the story. Two huge hydro shields, each measuring 20 meters by 8 meters, were used as the backdrops for four RTI NANO AT4 lasers and two RTI NANO AT6 lasers. Beijing New Space, a company specializing in these kinds of project and a year-long partner of RTI, coordinated the laser SFX part and RTI supported the implementation.
“The requirements were huge and the Chinese decision makers asked for high precision work and professional equipment” says K.H. Kaes, CEO of Ray Technologies (RTI). “This year we are asked again to provide professional show laser light equipment and show creation expertise for this multimedia spectacle.” The German company, a subsidiary of Laserworld (Switzerland) AG, is known for their precision and quality in laser light productions.
The inner area of the arena formerly used for track and field was used as the stage for this event. Spectators were tiered around the stage. Over 150 actors and stunt performers were used in the staging of this event. Actors were even dangled in the air to portray snowflakes.
The “Attraction” was built as only a temporary presentation and ended on October 5th, 2013.
