A wide range of Barco image processing, projection and LED products played major roles in awards presented by Lighting&Sound America, ARCHI-TECH and PRO AV.
During InfoComm’s Rental & Staging Forum and Reception, Lighting&Sound America (LS&A) presented the Staged Events Awards. Freeman Audio Visual Solutions received the award for “Best Overall Staging for a Corporate or Association Event” for their staging of the Miller Brewing Annual Distributors Conference. Four Barco SLM R12+ projectors, one Barco FLM HD18 high definition projector and Barco’s Encore Presentation System contributed to the event. A theatre was erected with a semi-round that was utilized to provide a more intimate presentation space. The white pleated drape was 100′ by 30′ high with four Barco SLM R12’s projecting “Watch Out” backgrounds. These backgrounds also acted as the backdrop for the stunning custom floating screens that suspended in an arch circling the stage. The projectors used on the white pleated fabric were blended and shaped to create a solid specific background look for each presentation. Each pair of screens (one 4:3 aspect ratio and one 9:16) were projected by a single Barco HD18 high def projector using Barco Encore to mask the space between screens while creating the two distinct images.
Freeman also received two other awards in which Barco played a key role. Another “Best Overall Staging” award was given for Freeman’s production of the Microsoft Management Summit, in which three stacks of Barco SLM R12+ projectors were utilized for a 15×45′ screen. To complete Freeman’s awards, the “Best Use of AV Technology for a Trade Show Booth/Client” was awarded for their staging of the National Association of Cable TV Awards. Here, eight Barco SLM R12+ projectors were projected on to 28 x 5 foot ribbon Vision Screens hovering above along with a Barco G5 projecting onto an 8 foot fog wall central to the booth.
In the second awards ceremony, ARCHI-TECH announced the winners of the 2009 ARCHI-TECH AV Awards, which honor exceptional audiovisual architectural projects. The “Grand Prize” winner for best project was awarded to the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, California. Among the many remarkable AV exhibits at the California Academy of Sciences, a Barco DP-2000 Digital Cinema Projector is used for an immersive 3D presentation within the museum’s Hearst Forum.
ARCHI-TECH also gave two additional “General” awards in which Barco played key roles. First, an award was given to The Comcast Experience in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a remarkable video installation in the atrium of the Comcast headquarters. The project uses Barco’s NX-4 LED tiles, DX-700 LED digitizers and the Encore presentation system to create the world’s largest indoor 4mm LED wall.
A second award was given to the Law Offices of Nix, Patterson and Roach for the installation in their Las Colinas, Texas facility. Here, a Barco SLM-R12+ projector was utilized in a Global Imagination® Magic Planet® video globe and a Barco iCon 600 projector complemented the overall audio visual experience at the firm.
In the third ceremony, PRO AV announced the winners of their annual Spotlight Awards, which celebrate excellence in AV installations. Here again, Barco played a significant role. The “PRO AV Spotlight Judges’ Award” was given to The Comcast Experience, with NX-4, Encore, DX-700. The “Best Museum AV Project” award was lauded on the California Academy of Sciences, with Barco DP-2000 digital cinema projectors chosen for the 3D capable theater.
Dave Scott, President of Barco, North America, commented on the three InfoComm awards ceremonies and Barco’s involvement in these diverse, award-winning projects. “There’s an excellent underlying theme in play here, and one that our customers are keenly aware of,” said Scott. “The designers, integrators and staging companies have a vision to fulfill for their clients, and the selection of Barco gear is clearly a major contributor to the fulfillment and realization of that all-important goal. As we’ve seen clearly at InfoComm 2009, it’s an award-winning vision.”
