The World Expo 2010, taking place in Shanghai, will be a visual masterpiece. Not only the architecture of the different pavilions will be eye-catching, also the lighting, LED and projecting solutions will awe the expected 70 million spectators. No less than 250 Barco projectors, distributed over 16 pavilions, visualise the current and future ideas of corporations and countries.
Barco has been a long term partner of World Expo and will continue to support this event in the future. Over the past issues, Barco’s visualisation solutions have contributed to the success of the World Expo and it is no surprise that many of the pavilion’s designers turn to the company to translate their ideas into a real installation. “Barco always puts great emphasis on the Expo, establishing a highly professional team to support the construction of the different installations”, JP Tanghe, Senior Vice President of Barco says. “By not only offering great products and techniques, but also the most skilled persons to do the job, we succeed in meeting the extremely demanding requirements for the creative designs.”
Projections on a brain cell
The Belgium pavilion, which also houses the EU exhibition, is a good example of Barco’s craftsmanship. Fifteen ultra silent FLM HD20 projectors are used to bring the concept to life. The show-piece in the interior is a brain cell structure, representing Belgium’s rich achievements in science and art.
“The national pavilion on the World Expo is literally the business card of a nation to the rest of the world”, Leo Delcroix, Belgium’s Commissioner General for Expo 2010, explains. “It is thus of utmost importance that it gives a good idea about a country’s potential. Therefore we needed projectors that could make our visuals come to their rights in all lighting conditions. The Barco projectors do this perfectly, without creating disturbing noise.”
Koen Allaert, CEO of Flanders Investment and Trade, agrees: “The combination of the architecture, the exhibition, the lighting and the projection are what make a pavilion stand out. Using Barco’s LED technology, I’m convinced we gloriously succeeded in doing that.”
Also Sylvie Irzi of Virtualis, Project Lead for scenography and decoration of the Belgium Pavilion, expresses her appreciation. “Finding a technology partner that can bring your ideas to life is a major challenge for any designer. Barco’s professional staff understood what we were trying to achieve and provided all means necessary to reach our goals.”
Barco brings ideas to life
Other highlights that feature Barco equipment, include the Shanghai Automotive Pavilion, where 20 Barco high definition projectors let the visitors travel through time to experience intelligent transportation in 2030. Also the Taiwan Pavilion, where Barco’s imaging techniques help to build up the 4-D and IMAX dome theatre, is well worth a visit. In the Chinese Private Enterprise Pavilion, 15 Barco DML-1200 projectors create a dreamy stage that awe spectators. And over 20 high definition video conferencing rooms, supported by Barco technology, are featured in the EXPO Centre – after the Expo, this pavilion will serve as the conference centre of the Shanghai Municipal Government.
