Freelance members who take advantage of public liability insurance (PLI) available through BECTU are being reminded that cover for the current year ends on 30 April.
Members who want the cover to continue without interruption must reply by 30 April to the communication which has been issued.
All members who have elected to have the cover have been written to with information about the top-up subscription for 2009/10.
“We are concerned that no member who needs PLI cover to continue, should find themselves without the necessary protection,” explained Gerry Morrissey, BECTU’s general secretary.
BECTU members who want cover to continue but who have not received a letter should contact our membership department with their membership number and contact details.
The top-up fee for 2009/10 remains at £23 only for the full year from 1 May 2009; the fee has been held at the same level as in 2008/09.
The cover available through BECTU insures against public liability claims of up to £5million; BECTU provides a significant subsidy to members on the cost of the policy.
New freelance members who require PLI can take advantage of the union’s policy at no extra cost up until the 30 April following their date of joining. For example, a new member joining on 1 May 2009 would be able to benefit from free PLI cover for the full year.
