Jon Stevens, Creative Director of Charcoalblue, will discuss Essential Stage and Technical Planning alongside Matthew Smethurst-Evans of TheatrePlan and George Ellerington of Arup Venue. He says: “My theme will be the planning of stage lighting systems, a topic with a huge impact on the success of any theatre space and one which has plenty of pitfalls for the unwary!”
Gavin Green, Design Director for the company, will examine ‘The Development of Theatre Forms’ with Len Auerbach of Auerbach Pollock Friedlander chairing Josh Dachs of Fisher Dachs and Flip Tanner of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Green comments: “I’ll be discussing the new RSC main house theatre as it nears completion and how it stacks up against other contemporary thrust stage theatres.”
Senior Consultant and engineer Giles Favell will join Alan Bartlett of The Royal Shakespeare Company to consider the pros and cons of demountable stage floors.
The quadrennial conference kicks off at 10am on Sunday 13th June at the Central Hall, Westminster. This year the theme is: ‘Are Performing Arts Buildings Fit for Purpose and What Does This Involve?’ The conference will focus on the business of planning, building and equipping venues for the performing arts. New buildings will be reviewed and the latest equipment developments presented and discussed.
The conference will be followed by two days of the ABTT Theatre Show at the Royal Horticultural Halls, Victoria.
