Rigging for a stadium concert has collapsed in Oakland County America at the Silverdome, miraculously nobody was killed although at least two crew were taken to hospital for their injuries. One person who asked to remain anonymous said “I had to dive off the stage to not get killed, I dove headfirst, landed about 7 feet below on the concrete, on my face. It was the scariest thing I’ve ever seen in my whole life.”
He said he was lucky to look up and see the truss snap just in time to escape “I saw it coming down and I didn’t want to look back, I just dove,” he said. “I had to dive to avoid getting crushed.”
The planned concert featuring A.R Rahman who was the composer of “Slumdog Millionaire” had to be cancelled. A statement from A.R. Rahman said he is, “deeply grateful no one from his team or the local Detroit stage crew was seriously injured.”
Early indications are that the ground supported rigging and truss was overloaded. There are reports of eyewitnesses seeing the truss severely bending, but before anything could be done the structure collapsed. The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, MIOSHA, is investigating the accident but currently has released no information.
