The renowned Swabian State Theatre was founded in 1803 in the city’s former arsenal building, where they host a variety of productions, ranging from the classics to contemporary plays and rock operas. The versatile nature of the venue space, has led to a requirement for a new lifting system to accommodate this flexibility and comply with the German lifting standard BGV-C1.
The Building Department of the city of Memmingen, approached German Based COW Lifting Technology, to consult on a new installation for the venue that would allow greater freedom of design for the space. COW, a subsidiary of UK based Lift Turn Move Ltd, custom designed a system that integrates the lighting trusses with 16 x 250kg C-Force Hoists. In order to accommodate the multifunctional character of the studio stage, this is all managed by a manual control system with selective group and safety functions, in accordance with the stringent German BGV-C1 standard.
As a result, the theatre now has the facility to hang various lighting and set configurations with the ability to move each piece individually or in combination and after a few adjustments and adaptations, the system went into full operation earlier this year.
Klaus Weber, of COW comments; “For us the project in Memmingen is of great importance because in addition to its geographical proximity to us, this system represents one of hopefully many steps towards more installations in the classical theater area.”
