Taking place at the Amsterdam RAI from 2nd – 4th February, ISE2010 is one of the leading trade shows for the audio visual industry.
Exhibiting on stand 1J113, DiGiCo will be showing its full range of digital mixing consoles and accessories, with the new SD8-24 and EX-007 taking pride of place. Launched in September 2009, the SD8-24 packs all the punch that has made the entry-level SD8 console such a phenomenal success, but in a footprint which is less than a metre wide.
With the green shoots of economic recovery starting to be seen in many countries, live production and corporate events to which the DiGiCo SD8 is ideally suited are once again increasing in number. With the SD8-24, event providers have a console which is even more cost-effective and compact, opening up the world of DiGiCo power and flexibility to yet more users.
Despite its smaller size, the SD8-24 has exactly the same number of inputs and outputs, functionality and processing power as its bigger brother. It features the same fixed architecture and Super FPGA of the SD8, along with DiGiCo’s unique Stealth Digital Processing™. In addition, the newly developed OverDrive software comes as standard.
Key features of the SD8-24 include: 48/8 Stage Rack and 100m Digital MADI snake; Up to 60 mono or stereo channels with full processing; 24 mono or stereo busses + Stereo or LCR Master with full processing; Onboard local I/O with eight Mic/Line inputs, eight Line outputs and eight AES I/O; eight stereo floating point FX processors; Snapshot cue control with crossfade; 25 touch sensitive faders; Touch screen control; Networking and remote control; MADI connection; 24 x 32 bands of graphic EQ; eight channels x 4 bands of dynamic EQ, mono or stereo; eight channels of multiband compressor, mono or stereo.
Also attracting attention at ISE will be DiGiCo’s latest innovation, the EX-007, which is designed to substantially increase the number of available faders and number of channels controllable at any one time on a DiGiCo SD7 mixing console.
Usable from up to 100 metres from the console via a Cat5 cable connection, it is possible to augment an SD7 with two EX-007s – providing 24 faders, two additional touch screens, metering and other standard functions, which transforms the already impressive SD7 into a 100-fader mixing console.
“The EX-007 has many applications,” says DiGiCo managing director, James Gordon. “For touring, there’s the obvious advantage of more faders and the ability to control everything that’s on the main desk from multiple locations – ideal for shows where a number of mix positions are required because of a multi-stage set up.
“For fixed installations, the EX-007 can be used as a remote surface in the auditorium, with the SD7 in the control room at the back of the theatre. Also, the EX-007 is substantially smaller than the SD7, which has the added advantage of freeing up more seats for a venue.”
The EX-007 works with existing SD7 and SD7T consoles and will be fully compatible with all future products in the SD7 family.
“ISE is an excellent platform from which DiGiCo can show industry professionals how far we advance, year on year,” adds James.
“2009 was no exception for us in terms of innovation. The SD8-24, EX-007, SD7T, Over Drive software and MACH2 software suites demonstrate that we continue to be at the very forefront of the digital audio industry with our use of FPGA designs and user driven software.
“The result is that we can maintain our strong investment in R&D during 2010, bringing what we believe to be the best in console technology to our customers.”
