The d&b audiotechnik E-Series range has enjoyed quite a few new additions in recent times. Notable as the smallest subwoofer in the entire d&b audiotechnik product range, the latest addition is the new E12X-SUB. Being a small, lightweight, low profile, bass-reflex subwoofer fitted with a 12″ long excursion neodymium driver, its looks disguise the extra dimension it brings to the E-Series.
The E12X-SUB can be deployed in two different ways, firstly in an active mode with a dedicated d&b amplifier configuration with the smaller E-Series loudspeakers. In the second operational mode, the internal passive crossover of the E12X-SUB enables connection in parallel with an E8 loudspeaker driven by an appropriately configured single d&b amplifier channel, giving the same functionality of the larger E15X-SUB with E12 or E12D. The E12X-SUB will completely replace the current E12-SUB and also provide low frequency extension in smaller systems using both the E0 and E3 loudspeakers.
The E12X-SUB cabinet comes with a handle, an M20 threaded flange to accept loudspeaker stands, four rubber feet to prevent cabinet movement, protect the bottom panel and which locate into correspondingly shaped recesses in the top of another subwoofer to prevent movement when stacked. The E12X-SUB weighs a mere 18 kg (40 lb), measuring 358 mm (14.1″) x 530 mm (20.9″) x 448 mm (17.64″) and producing 124 dB SPL and 127 dB SPL when driven by the D6 and D12 respectively. Firmware and software updates including this subwoofer are available for download under the relevant sections within Support/Downloads at www.dbaudio.com. These provide configurations for all current d&b amplifiers and the latest version of R1 Remote control software.
The E12X-SUB contributes to highly economic reinforcement packages for mobile or permanent use in smaller applications or where space is restricted and extreme SPL is not a requirement.
