John Jones visited Scarborough recently to present a Motor School for the National Student Drama Festival. This was a shortened 4 hour school aimed around routine use and maintenance of hoists. Discussion was held on safety within the entertainment industry especially relating to the safety standards which allow some form of suspension or lifting of loads above people without secondary suspension.
Gordon Nimmo Smith said – “the NSDF technical crew consists entirely of students and young technicians who really appreciated the chance to hear about the use and maintenance of hoists first-hand from John. His knowledge on the subject, along with his many stories of both good and bad practice will be of great benefit to them as they move on from NSDF and begin careers in the theatre and entertainment industry.”
LTM also provided nine of the 1t LoadGuard® hoists for use during the festival at the Clive Wolfe Auditorium (a converted sports hall), comments came back saying “This was the first time NSDF had used the LoadGuard® hoists to BS 7906: Part 1, Category A. The quiet operation of the LoadGuard® hoists was particularly impressive. Additionally, the fact that the LoadGuard® hoists to the British Standard did not require secondary suspension proved to be a great time-saver during the rapid turnarounds required as part of the tight schedule at NSDF.”
