Top Portuguese artist Mariza has embarked on the worldwide Terra tour, named after her recent album. Returning to Portugal for a number of concerts, the singer made her entrance in Cascais on a sailing boat. This show marked the first time that Mariza’s sound engineer, João Cebolas, worked with a Midas PRO6 live audio system. It was provided by local rental company Audiomatrix for all the Portuguese dates, having been recommended by the company’s owner Jorge Pina.
Cebolas was only able to try the PRO6 for the first time the day before the show. “It’s a intuitive system, with a magnificent work surface where all the pots, buttons and colours are revealed very distinctly, and everything is just a touch away,” says Cebolas. “The LCD monitors are relatively large, with strong, vivid colours and high contrast, even when exposed to bright daylight. The audio processed and produced by the PRO6 is of very high quality, and the compression was a particularly big surprise to me.”
Another feature which Cebolas appreciated was the POPulation Groups, which allow groups of instruments to be summed together for mixing. “As I mix Mariza’s in-ear monitors via the FOH mixer, that was one of the most helpful features of the PRO6,” he says.
“I was always against digital consoles because I didn’t feel their features were suited to the way we need to develop our work. However in the case of the PRO6, I have to admit that Midas has made an excellent marriage between the analogue and digital domains, and from now on I always will prefer to work with it.”
