The 2010 ABTT Theatre Show saw the launch of a new on-line store for the entertainment industry – oubiance.co.uk.
Barclay Dakers, who heads up oubiance.co.uk, said: “Traditionally, on-line shopping for theatrical consumables can take up a considerable amount of time, wading through difficult to understand codes and product descriptions. We wanted to offer a completely different way of doing things. This site is run by techs, for techs.”
The site utilises easy to navigate menus and aims to cut through the confusion by offering simpler methods of finding the desired item. For example, the range of replacement lamps is illustrated to enable users to compare what’s in their hand with what’s on the site.
The team behind oubiance.co.uk have many years of hands-on, industry experience gained from working in venues across the globe. This expertise is passed on to the customer both on the site and over the phone – a free phone number is also in place to ensure that customers can enjoy easy access to team members and their specialist knowledge.
The website contains a huge range of consumable items such as tapes, paints, gels and effects. Also included are sections for sound and lighting equipment which will grow steadily over time to provide one of the most comprehensive listings of performing arts technology available on the internet.
Dakers concluded: “In essence, we’re trying to create the UK’s simplest and best on-line shop for the purchase of theatrical supplies and equipment. We’re really keen to collect feedback from users of the site to enable a programme of continual improvement – so I would greatly encourage anyone who uses the website to let us know how the experience was for them.”
