West Side Systems has released an update to its BeamCalc app, adding iPad compatibility and other improvements.
The popular iPhone app now fills the expansive iPad display with a detailed graphic view of up to three light sources, and a sidebar list which allows quick selection from a library of over 100 fixture types. Fixtures or lamps can be changed with a single tap, allowing immediate comparison of equipment choices. Sources and targets can be moved by dragging them with a fingertip while the beam drawing changes in real time. Standard pinch and drag gestures are used to zoom and scroll the drawing.
For the left side of the brain a separate view allows on-screen keyboard entry of source and target location, or of just the throw distance for quick estimations. This view also displays the calculated light pool width for the beam and field angles, and measurements of shadow length, elevation angle and illumination. Both imperial and metric modes are supported.
An extensive user guide is built in, and is also available on the product web page. The guide provides an in-depth look at all of the features. Information about BeamCalc and the other West Side Systems iPhone apps can be found at www.pocketlighting.com. BeamCalc works on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, and is available worldwide on the app store.
