Robert Juliat’s continuing success in China extends to Qingdao, the coastal city at the southern tip of China’s Shandong Peninsula.
Site of the 2008 Olympic Games sailing events, and now the National Training Centre for Aquatic Sports, Qingdao holds an annual 10-day festival, Qingdao Sea Culture Festival, and is home to the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Centre Grand Theatre, a prestigious new venue which opened late summer 2009.
Four Robert Juliat Aramis 2500W HMI followspots have been installed in the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Centre Grand Theatre which, located inside the international marina, is the main venue for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of all major international events centred around sailing. The Grand Theatre also plays host to a growing number of international performances such as the recent Moulin Rouge – Passionate Europe by The Russian Song and Dance Troupe.
The theatre’s inaugural show, Blue Imagination, premièred in August 2009 with a lighting design by Mr Sha Xiaolan, Lighting Designer of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, on which he also favoured Robert Juliat’s Lancelot and Cyrano followspots.
“A large multi-purpose venue such as the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Centre Grand Theatre is expected to adapt to a wide repertoire of events,” explains Robert Juliat’s Jamie Boey. “The Robert Juliat Aramis followspots have a narrow beam angle which suits the long throw distances and zoom optics that can be adapted to suit each application. The Aramis can be depended upon to provide the incoming lighting designers with reliable and versatile performance, every time.”
