British pop starlets The Saturdays have had a busy summer on tour, and have chosen Sennheiser microphones and monitors for the entire time. The concerts, which included slots supporting Take That in addition to their own ‘The Work’ Tour, featured all five members of the band singing into SKM 935 mics with ew 300 IEM G2s providing the in-ear audio.
“It’s the combination of sound and price that draws me to Sennheiser,” explains The Saturdays’ Production Manager and FOH Engineer Andrew Thornton. “I’ve used both these systems with many other artists and I’ve always been happy with the results. The mics work well with all voices and give a nice bright sound without too much sibilance. The IEMs have rock solid reception and are small enough to be tucked away inside the most revealing outfit!
“The equipment worked very well for the entire tour. There wasn’t one drop out on the whole tour and we issues with packs going down. The Take That support shows were only a small part of the tour, but I knew the equipment would work just as well over the longer distances on their huge stage, so it was never an issue. Everywhere we played the show looked and sounded great and everyone was very happy.”
In addition to the audio quality and reliability of the Sennheiser equipment, Thornton was pleased with the support offered by Sennheiser UK’s artist relations managers, Phil Cummings and Mark Saunders.
“Phil and Mark offer a support network which is unrivalled,” he insists. “I’ve been a Sennheiser endorsed engineer for ten years and every tour I’ve ever done has featured their microphones. Whenever there is a problem I know they’re both on the end of the phone to help in anyway they can.”
