Stand 1330 at AES Europe sees Sennheiser showing an assortment of products including a selection from its MKH 8000 series, including the new MKH 8060 short gun and 8070 long gun microphones, and the new MK4 microphone with MKS-4 shock mount.
The MKH 8060 is ideal for feature films, documentaries or ENG. Its small dimensions belie its strengths as a professional gun microphone that provides directivity and improved off-axis linearity for a clear and natural sound recording and its special design ensures attenuation of off-axis sound without coloration.
The MKH 8070, meanwhile, delivers excellent directivity and off-axis linearity, putting it in a class of its own for broadcast or at sporting events, reliably capturing the action from a distance whilst offering a true and natural sound – even under the toughest sonic and climatic conditions.
All microphones in the MKH 8000 series have the ability to be converted to digital directly at the microphone head, ensuring a natural sound without any loss of quality.
The compact digital module is simply screwed onto the microphone head in place of the XLR module, turning the audio signal into a digital one. The new digital module ensures that the warm, natural, yet fantastically clear and powerful sound of the MKH 8000 series is maintained in full quality along the entire signal chain.
In contrast to conventional digitisation, which uses a separate analogue/digital converter at some stage in the chain, the Sennheiser MZD 8000 digital module eliminates cable losses and, most importantly, features a converter and surrounding circuitry that have been optimally matched to the microphone.
The MK 4 is a large-diaphragm true condenser microphone. Manufactured in Germany, this cardioid microphone is Sennheiser’s first large-diaphragm side-address microphone and focuses on giving the best possible sound quality rather than technical extravagance. It provides a powerful yet warm sound that is both direct and tight with fine treble resolution.
Alongside these will be Sennheiser’s 2000 Series range of wireless microphones, in particular the new GBw range variant (Channel 38 compatible), plus classic Neumann microphones such as the U87 together with its more contemporary range of digital microphones including the TLM 103D, KM 184D and the world’s first handheld digital performance microphone, the KMS 105D.
