The ever-expanding UK festival season builds to a major climax in August, with the twin V and Reading/Leeds festivals showcasing the very biggest names in popular music over two consecutive weekends.
These high profile events are extremely important to performers and rental companies alike, so Sennheiser UK ensures that it provides the maximum of on-site support for its users.
At V2009’s Weston Park site, Sennheiser UK’s artist relations team Mark Saunders and Phil Cummings, along with its RF service team, were on hand throughout the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd August. Based in a Portakabin located adjacent to the main stage, the team was ideally placed to offer advice and support – plus the odd free chocolate – to anyone who needed it.
Artists using Sennheiser microphones included Lily Allen and Dizzee Rascal, who were using the new G3 SKM 935 hand held radio mic with G3 EM 500 series receiver; Keane using the SKM 935 G2 with EM 550 receiver; The Saturdays with the SKM 935 G2 and EM 500 receivers and The Script using SKM 5200 handhelds with KK 105 heads. In addition, Snow Patrol made good use of the Neumann KMS 104 wired vocal microphone.
Sennheiser in-ear monitoring was also well in evidence, Lily Allen, Keane, The Saturday’s and The Script all using ew 300 G2 systems. Other Sennheiser users through the weekend included Calvin Harris, Biffy Clyro, Keane, Goldie Lookin Chain, Natalie Imbruglia, Athlete and Will Young.
The following weekend saw an equally impressive Sennheiser line-up at the Reading festival, which proved to be one of the most successful Readings ever for the company.
Sennheiser artist relations staff visited many of the company’s high profile users over the weekend, supplying advice and support where required.
Friday and Saturday main stage headliners Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys, plus second on the bill each day The Prodigy, Kaiser Chiefs and Bloc Party were all using Sennheiser equipment, along with other acts on a variety of stages, including Florence and The Machine, The Virgins, Jack Penate, Vampire Weekend and many more.
e 935 wired vocal microphones were the choice of Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys and Bloc Party, while The Prodigy were using the new G3 SKM 935 radio mics with EM 500 receivers. Kaiser Chiefs also used SK 500 body pack transmitters and EM 500 wireless guitar systems.
For monitoring, The Prodigy chose the new G3 ew 300 in-ear systems, with Bloc Party and Kaiser Chiefs opting for ew 300 G2s.
“Sennheiser has always had a proactive programme of support for sound engineers, hire companies and artists who use the products we both manufacture and distribute,” says Mark Saunders, Sennheiser UK artist relations manager.
“The on-site support and back up that we have been able to offer at major outdoor events this year has proved an invaluable way of ensuring that all of our users know that Sennheiser is serious about the relationships with them. All of the festivals we have been present at this year have been great successes for both us and our customers.”
