Sennheiser Middle East, which exhibits at PALME with the assistance of local distributor Venuetech, made fundamental changes to its stand at PALME 2010 and picked up an award in the ‘Best Pro Audio Technology Of The Year’ category for Neumann Digital Microphones.
This year’s PALME saw quite a difference in the stand set up, with almost all products as active displays, which meant that visitors to the stand could take the opportunity to use the new 2000 series products via the Wireless Systems Manager software. Also on show was an interactive guidePORT display, allowing visitors to use the new Porsche designed receivers to listen to live streaming audio from a video that explained how the system operates and to listen to the audio files stored within the device.
Neumann also had a significant presence on the stand, with an active display for the new digital range of microphones. This received a huge amount of attention, as it allowed A-B testing between analogue and digital versions of the same mic. It also offered the ability to use the Remote Control Software to control the DSPs contained within digital microphones, functions like gain control, pick up pattern and compressor/limiter can now be manipulated via the new AES-42 protocol. The AES-42 signal is then split into AES/EBU and control data through the DMI-8.
The PALME Awards were held at a gala dinner during this year’s event and had attendees from both major manufacturers and regional players within the industry. Up for grabs were a total of 10 awards for various categories relating to innovative technologies and the use of them in various types of applications.
Neumann Digital Microphones was fortunate enough to win the ‘Best Pro Audio Technology’ for the Solution-D and the AES-42 protocol. On hand to accept the award were Mr. Phil Massey, General Manager for Sennheiser UK & ME and Mr Mig Cardamone, Business Area Manager for Sennheiser in the Middle East. Mr. Massey’s attendance was somewhat of a fortunate fluke as the ash cloud covering most of Europe at the time affected his flight back to the UK. For the same reason, Mr. Joerg Pohl, Marketing Manager for Neumann, was unable to attend, but had this to say upon receiving the news of Neumann’s success: “The Middle East is, for Neumann, one of the fastest growing economic regions in the world. The PALME show has been established as a platform and international hub for all the professionals in our audio industry, offering us tremendous networking opportunities with our customers, which means the show is an inherent part of our international exhibition schedule.
“The introduction of the digital microphone product line Solution-D has become another milestone in the long history of our company in pioneering developments of professional audio technologies. Now available is the advantage of a loss-less transmission without any reductions in signal quality, retaining the full dynamic range, and detail of a high-class Neumann condenser microphone over the entire production workflow. The PALME Middle East Award for the Best Pro Audio Technology of the Year is a great recognition of the achievements of the whole Neumann team and a confirmation for our correct understanding of our customer’s issues. We thank you for your continued support in our efforts to advance the absolute performance of audio quality and increases our motivation to become even better in the future.”
