Launched in March and sponsored by Sennheiser and Gibson, the British Music Experience (BME) is already proving a must see attraction at The O2. With its innovative interactive exhibits and sound and light experiences, the show brings to life the last 50 years of British rock and pop music.
As a main sponsor of the British Music Experience, Sennheiser is now extending its BME activities with the first of what is hoped will be many education events at the show.
In May, a group of 80 music students from Bucks New University attended the BME, to experience all it has to offer and to gain first hand business and technical insights into the music and recording industry, courtesy of Sennheiser.
The event featured Q & A sessions with Sennheiser LIPA Scholarship Student, Alyssa Bonagura, who performed live and spoke to the audience about songwriting and live shows.
This was followed by guitar lessons from James Manders, using instruments kindly supplied by Gibson, and a Q & A session with leading Monitor Engineer, Duncan Wild, who has worked with many top artists including Corrine Bailey Rae and Editors.
The students were unanimous in their praise for the event, one Music Management student commenting that it, “made all the difference to meet and chat to people involved at the sharp end of the music business.”
Monitor Engineer, Duncan Wild, commented;
“I’ve worked with Sennheiser over several years and, being a great fan of their equipment and technical expertise, I was only too happy to offer support to their education efforts. It was good to hear such a wide range of questions too and it was nice to be able to be able to offer practical advice regarding work in the music industry.”
Susanne Buck, Education Manager at The O2 said:
“It’s great to see Sennheiser being so supportive of our education programme. Their involvement with the BME is already extending well beyond that of a sponsor. They are obviously very keen to give something back to the music industry and to help set young people on their way towards musical careers. We look forward to many more events with them.”
Frazer MacKenzie, Head of School, Music, Entertainment & Moving Image at Bucks New University, said:
“Our students clearly had a great time and learned a lot. With a mix of Music Production and Music Management students attending the British Music Experience, there was a fair mix of interests. Everyone seems to have been well catered for and we’d like to thank Sennheiser and the BME for the opportunity.”
The British Music Experience is now in permanent residence at The O2 on the Greenwich Peninsula, London.
