Simultaneously via a Twitter competition and at the ABTT Theatre Show in June the Stage Management Association (SMA) launched the second in a series of three Paper Props CDs, published by members Jacqui George and John Blunden, two stage managers with decades of experience in stage management and propping between them.
The winner of the Twitter competition, judged by Brian Attwood, Editor of The Stage, was Catherine Harmer with her tweeted caption for this photo from Paper Props CD1:
Paper Props CD2 includes around 70 images of documents such as identity cards, birth, death and marriage certificates, cheques, ration books and many more.
‘Documents in particular may seem unimportant and inconsequential but like every item on stage they contribute to the overall authenticity of a production,’ commented Barbara Eifler, Executive Director of the Stage Management Association, sole distributors for the CDs. ‘They can be perceived as jarring by the audience – especially those documents of which they may have personal experience – if great care isn’t taken over the research and their reproduction.’
Paper Props CD2 is available in conjunction with Paper Props CD1 at a special rate.
‘This CD means you have a range of suitable documents at your fingertips which can be printed easily from your computer – particularly handy for those last minute requests from designers, actors and directors’, commented Jacqui George, one of the creators of the CDs.
The idea has been received enthusiastically by the membership of the SMA. ‘This is the one we’ve been waiting for,’ said one member, ‘documents are really tricky, so this CD is extremely welcome.’
Paper Props CD 2 can be obtained from the SMA via its website at www.stagemanagementassociation.co.uk or by ringing 020-7403 7999
