Stage One were honoured to be invited to provide their services for the recent high profile state visit by Pope Benedict XVI. Working for marketing and event agency WRG, organisers of both the Twickenham and Birmingham events, Stage One were asked to deliver a scenic package in support of the Beatification Mass at Cofton Park, Birmingham.
Simon Wood, Stage One’s Sales and Marketing Director, commented, “over the years we have developed a close working relationship with our colleagues from WRG and we were delighted to be working with them once again, especially on such an important event.“
Mark Wallace, Chairman of WRG, commented, “The event at Cofton Park was a big success and we were greatly impressed by Stage One’s whole team and the way they went about their work. Nothing was too much trouble and the stage looked magnificent.”
Stage One were responsible for, amongst other things, extensive cladding to the main stage, raised platforms and treads upon and to the side of the stage, and the construction of the backdrops and dividing walls separating the stage from the Sacristy behind. Several Bishops chairs and stools were handmade from Ash and a further 28 painted Bishops benches were also provided.
Above the stage the company provided a flown ceiling upon which was mounted a hand crafted three-metre cross, containing a figure of Christ. The figure was shaped using Stage One’s CNC facilities and beautifully hand painted by the Companies scenic artists. Finally, Stage One created the Sacristy to the rear of the stage. This area consisted of a series of private rooms for the use of the Pope and his entourage and was completed to an extremely high specification.
Simon concluded, “a job of this scale inevitably throws up challenges along the way; in this instance having to take into account a sloping site and horrendous weather, but we are used to dealing with such challenges and overcoming them to ensure that our clients receive the best possible result.”
