Formed in 1993 by proprietor Stephen Davies, London based Subfrantic Production Services (SPS) has gone from strength to strength over the years, putting its trust in Turbosound products to support it along the way. “It’s been a long road since those first two stacks of Floodlight,” smiles Steve.
Progress in the expansion of the business has accelerated in the last five years, with the company adding 16 stacks of Aspect touring boxes to its original 16 stack Floodlight system around four years ago.
A couple of months ago Subfrantic decided to expand further, taking the system five-way and more than doubling its inventory of hire stock.
SPS’s Sean Murphy talks through what they bought and why: “Our original Aspect rig has been going out two to three times per week since we bought it and we’ve been getting fantastic results every time, so as our volume of work has been building up it seemed logical to buy some more.
“We only really needed a few more boxes, but in our usual style we decided to go all out and get the system we always wanted it to be. So now we have 36 stacks of TA-890Hs with 16 twin 18” TSW-218s, six amp racks with two LMS-D26s in each, four sets of 3 wide flyware and cabling for days. It’s all configured so we can run it either four or five way and we have BVNet running through the whole system so we have total control of everything all the time.”
Since its delivery the new kit has already been working hard, featuring prominently on the MySpace and Fire Brigade trucks at Notting Hill Carnival, and is currently out on tour with 80s legends Bucks Fizz.
SPS’s new Aspect joins an already impressive line up of equipment, including large stocks of the QLight series (TQ-445, TQ-425, TQ-310), TFM-450 wedges and their original Floodlight rig, which is still working hard.
Steve sums up where the company is at the moment and their plans for the future.
“It’s been quite some year for us. We have always had a programme of constant expansion, but over the past 12 months we’ve also doubled the size of our lighting business, started a 48 track live recording service, launched a new website at www.subfrantic.com, and taken on a second warehouse. We’re now well placed to cover everything from small corporate events through to arenas and next year we’re planning to move into video too, so it’s still all go here.
“I think we’re now joint largest stockists of Aspect in the UK and with the sheer volume of work we’ve done with the system over recent years, we’re quite possibly the most experienced operators of it.”
