Stage Electrics has reported another successful year as a leading supplier of technical equipment to the Edinburgh Festival. A dedicated team spent the duration of the festival in the cultural capital, on hand 24 hours a day to provide technical equipment and assistance to a variety of venues. Leading venues serviced by Stage Electrics included: Underbelly, Gilded Balloon, Universal Arts and Assembly Theatre. In addition, Stage Electrics’ Business Development Manager Ian Green hosted three popular Pie and Pint lighting console demonstrations. Demonstrations were provided by Zero 88 and the Orb, ETC EOS and ION and MA Lighting’s grandMA Ultra Light, followed by some of Edinburgh’s finest pies.
Almost 33 miles of cable, 781 square metres of staging, over 2,300 generic lanterns, 150 moving lights and 1,271 metres of truss from Stage Electrics’ rental stock were employed over 6 weeks to transform a variety of spaces including church halls, gardens, bars, Masonic lodges and assembly halls into professional theatre venues. Stage Electrics were also in the right place to supply a last minute hire to BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills the Musical. Stage Electrics has been providing technical support at the Edinburgh Festival for over two decades.
As an extension of their Edinburgh sales office, the company established a temporary branch in central Edinburgh for the duration of the fit up, festival and get out, offering technical support service with on site engineers, as well as a large selection of sales and hire stock, for those unforeseen situations where goods were needed immediately. This year Stage Electrics’ MD David Whitehead went back to the shop floor and was on hand at the Edinburgh branch to take calls and arrange deliveries to venues in need of kit. David Whitehead comments: “Working as part of the team to provide a 24 hour service to venues throughout Edinburgh and understanding what products and services are expected from us, was extremely worthwhile. It was pleasing to see a wide range of our customers calling on us for their last minute needs.”
Stage Electrics’ long association with the various Edinburgh festivals includes both large and small theatre companies, including Fuel Theatre productions. Stuart Heyes Production Manager for Fuel comments: “Stage Electrics supported all six of our productions. I am delighted with the constant understanding and care taken by the Stage Electrics team to work with us through the preparatory stages. The speed of their response was fantastic. A willingness to go the extra step to look after a client was much appreciated by all our team.”
Stage Electrics Business Development Manager, Paul Roughton, comments “It is always a demanding time of year for us, but we are thrilled we continue to go the extra mile to ensure we deliver for our customers, whether at 2 in the afternoon or 1 in the morning.“
