Key members of the Swedish House Mafia (SHM) crew are moving with the groove and becoming Movember Mo Bros, sprouting creative, wacky and wild selections of facial hair in the process of cultivating of eclectic array of moustaches to raise money for the Movember men’s health awareness initiative.
The point of Movember is to have fun, raise money and get people talking about the often overlooked issue of men’s health, specifically in relation to prostrate and testicular cancer.
The eight-strong SHM Movember team were energised by Tour Manager Michael ‘Curly’ Jobson, whose attention was drawn to the issues when his father in law was diagnosed with prostate cancer – the most common cancer in men in the UK.
Joining Curly as Mo Bros are Lighting Designer Ian Tomlinson, FOH Engineer Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Sargent, Monitor Engineer Carlos Herreros, Production Manager Mark Reuben, Advance Production Manager Robin Scott, Stage Manager Rob Lister and VJ Sam Hodgkiss.
Between them, they are hoping to raise over £5000 for the cause … and hurry up – there is still a week to go if you would like to contribute!
There is also an informal competition going on between them for who has the most awesome, interesting or innovative facial hair artwork come November 30th .
Rob Lister, who usually sports a beard “of sorts” reckons with a week to go that they have all come second to McGringco (Mark Ruben) in this!
Mark himself proudly declares “YES!!! … I’m joining a Village People tribute band” in response to the suggestion that his is the campest offering – that will be at the end of the SHM tour we presume!
For Rabbit, known and loved for his expansive sense of humour, it’s actually the second attempt at au natural facial enhancement – but the first for a good cause. The previous one spectacularly failed to impress an ex-girlfriend, but he’s now married and hoping that his partner won’t be filing for divorce!
Robin thinks it’s a great idea, and in fact this is his second Movember, so he does at least have some idea of what he can expect to achieve.
Ian states that “It’s a great charity ….. and I think Curly likes to be surrounded by men with moustaches”. He also admits to chickening out last year, but this year his enthusiasm was complete!
Carlos has had a real laugh taking part but recons that he will win the ‘worst tache’ prize and has no intention of keeping it beyond 30th November …. After which he won’t have to endure band members calling him “El Zorro” any more! (could be a lot worse!)
Sam concludes “When Curly raised the idea .. we could not say no to creepy faces and crew bonding!” .. of which it seems there has been copious amounts!
