The nominees for the 2010 What’s On Stage Theatregoers’ Choice Awards, which cover productions that have opened in London’s West End and beyond over the last twelve months, have now been announced.
The 2010 awards – the tenth – once again include the Best Lighting Designer category sponsored by entertainment lighting supplier White Light; White Light and What’s On Stage, who introduced the award last year, when it was won by Malcolm Rippeth for Brief Encounter and Six Characters In Search Of An Author.
As with all of the other categories, nominations for the Best Lighting Designer award came from members of the public. Their chosen nominees this year are Johanna Town for Speaking In Tongues at the Duke of York’s; Kevin Adams for Spring Awakening at the Lyric Hammersmith and then the Novello; Mark Henderson for Enron at the Royal Court, Mike Robertson for On The Waterfront at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, Natasha Katz for Sister Act at the Palladium, and Neil Austin for Life Is A Dream at the Donmar Warehouse and Madame de Sade for the Donmar West End season at the Wyndham’s.
A full list of nominated people and productions can be found at www.whatsonstage.com.
Voting for the winners is now open at the whatsonstage.com website through until the end of the month; the winners will be announced at a concert for theatregoers on 14th February 2010 at London’s Prince of Wales Theatre. 2009 saw over 35,000 people vote; this year, the whatsonstage website includes running voting totals allowing visitors to keep track of how their favourites are doing.
