For opening night in Soldier Field, U2 sold out all 65,000 tickets in a matter of minutes, and based on the demand, the band had to schedule an extra show on September 13th. The centrepiece of the U2 360° tour is the world’s first transformable LED screen, comprised of over 500,000 Barco FLX LED modules.
For the third time this millennium, the close cooperation between XL Video and Barco has resulted in revolutionary shows for U2, each with sets comprised of LED arrays previously unseen in the events industry. The shows are the result of months of intense technical and creative collaboration. For the next two years, XL Video will be accompanying U2 on the road, turning every show into a visually stunning spectacle, and Barco will continue to support XL Video for the duration of the tour.
Previous XL Video – Barco partnerships have led to a wide variety of successful concert tours, with high-profile artists such as Bon Jovi, George Michael and many more — and the current U2 360° tour continues the close inter-company partnership.
“We are glad to be working with Barco on the new U2 360° tour,” says Rene De Keyzer, XL Video’s Managing Director. “XL Video has always been an early adopter of ground breaking technologies, because we believe that this is the best way to serve our customers. Throughout the years, we’ve built an impressive track record, culminating now with the U2 360° tour.”
“Working with XL Video over the years, we’ve realized numerous successful projects, and the current U2 360° tour is no exception,” says Paul Matthijs, Senior VP for Barco’s video and lighting solutions business unit. “The U2 360° tour represents the perfect showcase for how innovative products can enable world-class entertainment, with sets capable of visually overwhelming millions of fans worldwide. With forward-thinking rental partners such as XL Video, partners who are willing to invest and push the boundaries of creative visualization technology, the future of the events industry is truly bright.”
